a developing nation, with low rates of education, has higher rates of religious belief from lack of education. This is a fundamentally different thing than, devout observance, which is not entirely dependent upon education or lack of education.
in the same way, ignorant people just go along with what people in their community believe about politics or anything, this is fundamentally different from political extremists who have access to education but become political radicals anyway.
and you can expect say, in america, and average white low education red state guy who "kinda votes for donald trump cuz kinda everyone does" has a different behavioral profile than a person where resources and education were available but they are true radicals hyper maga belief in it.
religion is similar and a profession you are religious from local social lack of educational infrastructure is a different phenomenon from devout pious observance which if anything clusters with education, but inspiration/uplift/true belief of that doctrine.

Yes, religiosity corresponds to having more children. You can look at any data and find that. But it does not save you from DECLINING fertility, which is universal even in very religious communities.
"falling and rising" are relative values. Moromonism is becoming less popular in utah, thus the rates are falling. Orthodox are increasinly migrating to israel, thus the rate is rising. "falling and rising " is entirely determined by relativity.
