Shane Black's new Parker and Grofield movie finally has a trailer
Shane Black's new Parker and Grofield movie finally has a trailer
a Shane Black Parker adaptation should be a slam dunk! Wahlberg wouldn’t have been my first choice but still
The Venn diagram of my love for Shane Black's writing and weakness for the movie Shooter finally overlap.
Do we have time to digitally replace Wahlberg?
Haven't been feeling Wahlberg for many years but when he's engaged he's good, so we'll see.
also not crazy about Wahlberg (and not crazy about quippy Parkers in general) but I’m interested to see Stanfield as Grofield!
Dya suppose there's a chance this plays at Beyondfest?
Hamm always seemed like the obvious choice for a modern take on Parker. But what do I know? This does seem like Shane Black in his element, and Rosa Salazar is an instant yes for me, so…I would like to watch this.
Ya know, despite a number of things that could be criticized I say: Fuck yeah, a new Shane Black movie! AND in the genre he can’t be fucked with about.
An original story apparently? There's no source material listed other than the Parker series.
my understanding is that it's mostly original but it takes some inspiration from one of the Grofield novels. there was a specific Parker title mentioned to me too but I'm not sure whether that influence remains in the final product.
I recall hearing when it was first announced it was an adaptation of THE HANDLE, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Either way, cautiously optimistic. I know how much Black reveres Westlake and the character, so it expect it should be respectful while still a fun Shane Black movie.
It looks vaguely like THE HANDLE to me? Casino, boat, robbing a pseudo-nation? Lots of differences too, of course.
huh, that one was never an influence. I saw a lot of places call it an adaptation of The Hunter but they just assumed because it's the first. anyway, I'm also feeling cautiously optimistic, I love the source material but I'm trying not to be too precious about it
Same. Gonna let Shane Black do his thing with it. Fingers crossed!
When it starts with Wahlberg-Parker being double-crossed by a lady friend, my immediate thought was, "C'mon Shane, we're doing The Hunter AGAIN?" Kinda glad he appears to just be doing a new thing with vague concepts of Parker/Grofeld and their dynamic.
the first novel is kind of an outlier in the series anyway, they're not drawing from it at all. but I can't actually think of a Parker novel where he isn't betrayed or double-crossed lol
Damnit why did they have to pick Wahlberg? Can’t stand the guy and obviously bad casting
11th hour casting after RDJ dropped out
I used to think Josh Brolin would be the guy, maybe he’s a little too old now
Robert Downey Jr?! That also makes no sense. Jesus Hollywood get off the nose candy.
people forget RDJ's a good actor, I think he could have pulled it off. and it's not "nose candy," they have to find a big enough star to get a film made. unfortunately Parker's a role made for a character actor, not a big name.
Okay, I watched the trailer. Even setting aside how this has nothing to do with Parker, this looks pretty generic.
look, this movie's getting dumped on amazon prime in October and they're not bringing their A-game in promoting it. they've released 1 trailer and 1 still image, that's it. my friends made this, I know they love the source material, & I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt until I see it for myself
I'm fine if Westlake's estate got some $ and I'll wait until it comes out to reserve judgement, but looks like things went off the rails here. Sympathy to your friends.
lol you could've saved that little bit of condescension for after the film's release, *if* you're vindicated! I would personally rather root for my friends here and I'm hoping for the best - I love Westlake and I'm a huge fan of Shane Black's work and would love to see a return to form
I hope for the best. I don't want to be vindicated. I just want somebody to do Parker right. It's hard not to be cynical when you see a property used seemingly for name recognition only with none of the actual elements that made it so great.
With a Christmas appearance!!!!
