I recently saw a bumblebee sitting very still on a flower. Getting closer, I realized that it had been caught by a #spider. The color-changing crab spider feasted for quite some time before dropping the bee carcass, then waited several days to see if it could catch another. #InverteFest

What initially appeared to be a bumblebee sitting very still on a flower turned out to be a flower crab spider (Misumena vatia) enjoying its dinner. When startled by me and my phone, the flower crab spider (Misumena vatia) attempted to move its bumblebee dinner. I backed away so it could finish dinner in peace. Flower crab spiders don't spin webs; instead, they wait on flowers to ambush bees, moths, and other prey. The female can change the color of her body to match her surroundings.
