I always ask, “Okay, you’ve been accused of a terrible crime and the press is all over it and everyone believes it and thinks you’re THE WORST. You want a lawyer? Then shut up about who deserves one.” That, and BFF says her job is to make sure prosecutors and cops follow the law.

And they come back like “but I’m obviously innocent so it’s not the same” and I’m like “sure, but the court of public opinion has already convicted you so by your own standard it doesn’t actually matter whether you did it. Want a lawyer? Then shut the fuck up.”
