Taking them in good faith, my guess is they were flustered from the whole encounter w the DV victim & cops, got off at the nearest exit, then, when they tried to get back on course, they accidentally got on the highway going the wrong way, & only realized it when they saw the scene across the way.

Maybe the whole "rudy saves abused woman" story changed the day's plans. back to work to rehab his reputation! and I don't think he ever got off the highway. i think they tried to merge from the median and the other driver was distracted by the emergency vehicles and didn't see them pull in front.

My guess: -They left the scene of the DV victim, but were flustered & took the nearest exit. -Then tried to get back on the highway, but maybe only realized they were on the wrong N-bound side when they saw the cops across the way -Maybe slowed/stopped, rubber-necked & caused a rear-ender.
