I watched it recently for the first time in many many years and I couldn’t believe this had been made by a mainstream Hollywood studio for a mass audience. I kept on asking myself who was this movie made for? And I couldn’t figure it out.

Keep in mind this was before superhero movies had a formula. It was basically Chris Reeves' Superman and Keaton's Batman. They did fire Burton after this one with the consequence that the next few Batman movies sucked balls.

It’s just that neither of Burton’s movies bother to explore the character or the mythos. I found the first one especially limp. Burton produced the next movie. He had moved on. As an adult, I was shocked by how poorly these movies aged.
