In the last 20 or so minutes I’ve seen LAPD officers shove women to the ground without provocation, rip a sign out of a man’s hand and then swing a baton into his leg and raise a less-lethal launcher to aim directly at a protester (which I’m 99% is a major policy violation.)

When I was a corrections officer, we were not allowed to brandish our riot batons, nor were we allowed to point the gas guns at people. I worked at two of the most dangerous prisons in Texas. I don't agree with the prison system, but by god, at least they have some fucking standards about force.
I guess because it's obvious that it escalates and pour gasoline to the fire (sort of speak). Its enough if people see you were carrying the batons and the gas guns. The minute you start using it it just declares war. btw, thank you for your post

Military (and no crossover like a former MP) General rule; if someone says veteran without anything further, they mean military- at least in my experience.

As a retired police officer, I can attest to the fact that none of the police actions that happened here present legal activity by any law enforcement entity. It is unacceptable. They should all be fired.

Reform the Police. "Defund the Police" was a horrible slogan. Most people don't want to completely abolish the police, but most sane people would like to see reform, starting with ending qualified immunity, among other things.

I disagree. As there are plenty of countries where police work fine. Giving up the enforcement arm of the government to the right is a problem you won’t fix by removing the police system. They’ll never let you.
Example is after all the “defunding the police” protests in 2020. The only result you got was an increase of police budgets across the board.

Just to be clear, I was commenting on “there is nothing going on/happening” and saying I have witnessed a fair bit of things happening, including violence. I think we’ll see a lot of injuries from this. We all know how the media is going to try to frame things. But these protestors are being harmed.
It's happening in a very small location. Like Portland in 2020 when they claimed the entire city was on fire.
Portland protesters got pretty sophisticated during that siege. Avoiding tear gas is a good idea; it has long-lasting effects. That’s why using it is a war crime unless law enforcement uses it on their own citizens.
Your post is broadly true, but having lived in the Portland area my entire life -- including during the period you're referencing -- it was disrupting MUCH more of downtown Portland than that. No need to counter overselling with underselling.
When the streetlights came on and the cops wore their best storm trooper gear to attack protesters, they attempted to flee out of the protest area. Cop attacks is what led to more disruptions and their instigators.
Yep and the city has had to pay out quite a bit in settlements for injuries caused to protesters during some of these police actions.
I recall one cop in his day uniform telling protesters that he can't wait for sunset for when he gets to bust heads, on camera he said this.
I remember seeing that. Really disgusting. I also remember talking to a cop on the Max once who was telling me how many OT shifts he'd worked due to Occupy & how he was full of adrenaline as a result. While I was listening to Occupy music. It was weird.

Rubber bullets can also blind people and cause other damage, depending on where they hit you.
Most “non-lethal” weapons actually have a significant capacity to kill someone. Tasers are known to induce seizures, and tonic clonic/grand mal seizures can and do kill people
