i continue to be baffled at what some of you see in the last of us show
Agreed...although the problems I had with that show are pretty much the same ones I have with Andor, unfortunately.
Yeah some truly excellent moments but overall a bit overrated 😬
The game was beautifully crafted, with a truly engaging narrative arc. I think folks that have played the game find the rendering in live action to be fun (I'm definitely in that group).
The Last of Us Pt II is a masterpiece 🤟
A masterpiece of liberal commentary on Zionism
Echoing the talking points of red-pilled conspiracy theorists. As is the function of metaphor, it can signify numerous things at once to various peoples and perspectives. That you echo this one says more about you than the game. If you claim this is your original take, please feel free to expound.
You think saying a writer who has publicly talked about how TLoU2 was affected by Israeli politics is "red pilled conspiracy theory?" www.vice.com/en/article/t...
Remember the rest of what I said about how metaphors work? “Affected” is an entirely different preface than your last post, no?
Oh you're professionally snotty as well as politically confused, got it
How so?
If you're actually interested in how Neil Druckman has talked about how TLOU2 is directly inspired by his vengeful thoughts about Palestinians as an Israeli (that's the liberal view of Zionism I mentioned), you can read the article
I am aware of what he said. I’m also aware of how story and metaphor work, whether that’s regarding the Bible, Harry Potter, or The Last of Us. People write what they know. However, I’m curious about how that’s the “liberal view of Zionism.” Do explain.
Great read, thanks! I’ve seen season 1 which I quite liked but haven’t felt particularly interested in taking up the second season, so this helped put any FOMO to rest at least. ;)
lol I sat down to the first episode of this season last weekend and had the immediate realization that maybe I actually don’t like this show very much.
zizek loves it so much
Why? It's a great show. I'm baffled why you don't like it.
First season fucking sucked, I hate how overrated that show is, and quite reactionary.
You’re really hinging a lot of your emotional wellbeing on this.
Just a bad show isall
“Bad” is a stretch. A show you don’t enjoy is more accurate.
I think it's objectively bad: poorly written and directed. But Pascal and Thorne are so charismatic that they make it seem like a good show. If you like it, good for you, enjoy.
But I am curious of what makes it objectively poorly written and directed? I am trying to parse that against the writer of Chernobyl and, for instance, the director of the most recent episode who also brought us Succession, Game of Thrones, and Shameless. Historically, the evidence says otherwise.
I’ve only seen Season 1, but can you explain how it’s reactionary? They called themselves communists on screen. I think American version of Third Body Problem is reactionary.
There are a few moments throughout the season that add up to a very conservative view of society. The centering of the family unit as the only thing that matters with Joel and Ellie; the whole thing with Rose from 2½ Men, who's a cartoonishly evil revolutionary, that both-sides fascism and...
resistance to fascism as equally unjust. Those are the ones I remember at the moment, there were a few more that stood out when I saw it the year it came out. They wouldn't bother me so much if the rest of the show was good, but I really disliked most of it, other than Joel and Ellie's chemistry.
I haven't read Three Body Problem, nor seen the show, but a podcaster I really liked mentioned once that the saga was written by a far-far-right Chinese writer lol but its disgusting politics were kind of lost in the translation into English.
Who’s the podcaster you like?
Mia Wong! She's a co-host of It Could Happen Here and sometimes does episodes for Behind the Bastards and Cool People Who Did Cool Stuff. I think her comments on Three Body Problem were on her Twitter account, which she deleted about a year ago, tho.
The book spends a lonnnggggg time criticizing Mao’s revolution which leads to a character hating humanity. The Netflix show makes sure to show this also. Very right wing.
they could be watching fallout, which has walton goggins being a undead cowboy with a huge gun
huge gun and huge -- no but really it's called the Mare's Leg and it's a shortened rifle, unless you're talking about the pistol but I think that's also modified and yes more people need to get into Fallout
mostly the pistol, he fans that fucker like he's in the movies
See, and I’m baffled by the fandom behind Fallout. Not saying it’s bad or anything. Different strokes for different folks.
is it because they're weird or
then you must not be attracted to pedro pascal
