$280 *per family* is nothing. We’d be far better off collectively investing that money into social programs that make life more affordable for everyone by taking the things we depend on out of the market system.

Hey that’s *almost* 77 cents per day. I could buy almost half a pack of gum with that.

In the end a similar affordability outcome to the Trudeau cheques they proposed, except this version also includes austerity.

Tax cuts = service cuts See the US where many are discovering the many, many govt services they rely on, that they've only discovered bc they've been cut Like weather reporting, CDC, infectious disease detectives, etc Canada needs more services not tax cuts

Oh fer fuck sakes. A meal for two at a decent restaurant runs $140 easy. In Winnipeg...not Toronto or Vancouver. $280 is nothing. You're right Paris...way better to spend it on social programs.

There are more people in Canada for whom that meal would be an unimaginable luxury than you think. Social programs are the way to go, but in the meantime, that money is very important for some people. Social programs seem to take a long time to come together.

Yes, but those people...and given my reduced income these days I'm becoming one of them...won't be getting the $280, they'll be getting less. Rich people will get more. Far better off to put the money to social programs.

Want to really help people out? Make the lowest 20% of income earners 100% tax free, shift their share of the overall tax burden directly to the highest 20%.

Social programs are way better than this; a bonus which may (may!) cover the cost of cable/streaming services but probably won't.

This Liberal tax cut was always a populist move to counter the 'Axe-the-tax' crowd and was never meant to be a sound economic policy, just like the GST tax break and the folded rebate cheque.

The government is blowing a massive hole in the budget for no good reason; solely so the Conservatives weren’t the only party promising a tax cut at the election.
