At some point we need to talk about how a ton of progressives came out of the pandemic not as anti-vaxxers, but still mistrusting the science behind vaccines.

I know that a lot of people conveniently memoryhole this, but the original wave of antivaxxers here were looking at Dems accusing Trump of "rushing a vaccine because of the election" and going "even your commie friends over there believe it's a scam".

Look at the demographics of progressives, and then ask yourself who in our society is more likely to believe in healing crystals and horoscopes and the like. It really isn't hard to figure out.

The wellness/supplement industry has infiltrated all parts of our society, from mainstream to outsider, and it's messed with people's belief systems and made a lot of us much more individualistic, narcissistic and selfish.

But because some in academic science blamed PoMo for this instead of new age crap (illiterately equating the two). Also, Big Pharma didn't help because it constantly conflated their commercial activities with public science. These are self inflicted wounds!

Anyway, it's horrible that we're here and the only way back is to talk about all this honestly. Ideally we'd remove the profit motive from medicine entirely, it's bad for medicine and bad for public health and humanity on purely ethical grounds.

Oh snap. It was rather convenient for the two to be conflated, wasn’t it?

yeah, it was bad and allowed the rightwing to take hold of all that valid criticism and just substitute the capitalism part out of it with crazy conspiracies

i mistrust private pharma companies, so i advocate for public pharma. but that doesn’t mean i think all pharma is a deception, conveniently at the same time the extreme right is trying to get people to stop trusting vaccines

i think there are a lot of progressives post-covid who’d advocate for public pharma but still mistrust the effectiveness of vaccines (especially the covid vaccine)

possible. but the right wing ubiquitous propaganda campaign has to be taken in to consideration. i mean, progressives were convinced to advocate for war, so

Didn’t a lot of the anti trust in the corporations bringing them to the public get conflated with anti trust in vaccines themselves?
