As an outsider, I immediately feel disgust at the st George flag, and feel essentially nothing at the other. Basically just "good for you". No one who uses the first flag is well meaning as far as I've seen. It's essentially the same as Confederate flags in America. No?
There's a subtlty with the England flag, if it's up during a big sporting event it's likely benign but having it up randomly outside that means there's an 80% chance you're dealing with a facebook racist or the EDL.
It's not exactly the same because to be frank the core difference is that the Confederate flag is in fact the flag of an evil political movement, whereas England's flag is England's flag. But it has been very aggressively weaponised by ethnic nationalists over the years
Yea that's true. I've just noticed that everyone I see the flag, something bad is going on. It's not necessarily ontologically evil in the same way, but it's a similar signifier, if not more so.
