Can’t happen soon enough. One of my former grad students is on his second Tesla. The first when he became a rich intellectual. The second is recent. I feel like I never knew him, and can’t get a fix on him now.

I thought i knew my best friend of 15 years until he suddenly turned to fascism. Don't know if it was an undiagnosed mental condition, drugs, addiction, or just who he was the entire time. Either way it was a shock.

It feels like you’re straddling two tectonic plates when people you’ve known for decades turn out to think completely differently than you always thought. I have just jettisoned them, though. Probably was blind to the truth about them ages ago.
