As a devout liberal Dem, I am intrigued by this non-profit model, where Swiss co-ops are nonprofits, tenants buy a membership which appears to be a no-interest loan to the co-op, which is repaid by the co-op in the end at face value, & pay a low rent. Co-op profits build more smart growth housing.

For DC, this nonprofit idea makes sense immediately for 1) law schools students & similar graduate students, a big portion of DC’s short term (~3 year) economy population, 2) military & similar parts of federal populations DoS DoJ DHS (1-8 years, mostly ~3 years). 3) Longterm US housing? Scares me

These exist mostly in NYC and a few in DC. NYC’s did well because they were part of a state initiative, but it’s much harder if government doesn’t help. Private capital always ruins housing for the many.
