I agree 💯and I have never doubted the real caretakers of this land. More people should understand we are strangers in a land that's not our own. Uninvited guest.
Caretakers is the correct term. Natives don’t believe anyone owns the Earth, it is our home, a gift we are all supposed to care for. This gave unscrupulous “others” the idea that it’s for the taking, even that which was already occupied. Imagine thinking you should own air, water, minerals, & dirt.
Thank you .. Caretakers is correct, for over 6000 years before the first Europeans ever set foot on Turtle Island (North America) It was the Natives, The Anishinaabek, the Niiji who cared for this land. We do not own it, the air, or the water ways, it is a gift for us to take of, its natures way.
Totally agreed!
Uninvited but Welcomed by its Natives, who showed our ancestors how to survive off the land. Great Britain wanting its compensation for unloading its undesirables on foreign land sent its army to take it over in the most brutal manner.
Our ancestors fought for their freedom from GB, yet many were no less greedy to take more than what the Natives were generously willing to share. The same greed still exists today & only the wealthiest are deemed worthy to exist.
Its a bit more complicated than that. The land was stolen by our ancestors but the thieves are long dead now, and every descendant of either side was born and raised here all our lives. It never should have happened of course, but we're all here now and share the land. (1/2)
Nope
Not really sharing when occupiers own vast majority of it. Hard to right history’s wrongs but a good place to start would be to put First Nations people in charge to decide what to do with the rest of us Dreamers. Voting for Harris/Walz would have put first female Native American governor in office.
If it was shared land there wouldn’t be a “land back” movement. Our land is still being poisoned and we have to fight in the wasichu court system to protect it. I am not sure how your parents taught you to “share”, this is not what we were taught.
So now what we all should be doing is trying to cooperate and live together in peace, but for that to happen there NEEDS to be changes. There needs to be more respect for the actual history of the land before it was stolen and there needs to be a middle ground for both of us. (2/2)
No we're still here and a lot of us are landless #Landback
I don’t know how to get land back for the original Americans. The Indians didn’t believe in owning the land. They treated it respectfully & responsibly. The treaties were not about ownership of land but places where the original people here could live in their native ways & thrive peacefully.
These are racist tropes. If the tribes had boundaries with each other we sure as shit understood owning and using the land. My tribe were farmers. Can't farm with out the land. There were cities rivaling those in Europe. St Louis was a giant city precontact. We understood land rights.
Not just loosing your land. Your language your culture your identity
