How often are you switching out peripherals that you need immediate access all the time? I go years between graphics cards which is basically all I ever change out (more extensive changes call for a new build and just doing something else with the old one).

I have all my peripheral slots on the top of the case (which is on the floor), so I just move my arm slightly down from my mouse and there it is. Much easier than devoting a 3rd of my entire desk to the wheeze machine.

great, but what if someone doesn't have enough front or top slots or they often need to screw around with plugs that are almost always only in the back (ethernet, hdmi, etc) That's all I'm saying: it's situational.

My office is literally a closet. There's no way I'm fitting the peripherals I need AND a full tower on that desk. I'll look into risers, tho, that sounds like a good idea.

In the interest of clarity, I put my towers on little risers, they aren't just like sitting on the carpet. But yeah, desktops are not for desk tops imo. I don't wanna see any goofy lights inside that box. Whatever's happening in there's none of my business. That's between AMD and The Lord.

I actually have a "sidecar" type table that attaches to my standing desk where I keep my PC. I was going to try to use the under desk mount, but the case is too wide. Don't love it, but it's working.

i found this one at an antique shop for a few hundred bucks! they're around and i think people often are willing to part with them fairly cheap because they're so heavy and hard to move lol

tmi but you can still get a solid wood desk, it's just a lot more expensive because we're running out of large dimension, high quality wood. You can also get one made out of sheet goods(veneered ply/particle board) that looks like solid wood but is way more structurally solid than anything ikea :)

PC is MUCH too large for my desk (it's also my music home studio PC, so BIG box with lots of slow moving fans for lots of cooling AND lots of quiet), & I don't like it on the desk anyway. BUT I would never dream of putting it on the floor either! So it just had to become its own piece of furniture.

Yes. Those are my work laptops. I have it hooked up to the one on the right. I press a button and the two center monitors go from displaying my personal PC (the tower) to displaying the laptop. It could also do one screen personal, one screen work, but it wasn't designed to support the ultrawide

I mean, it also switches mouse and keyboard controls too. It also has an extra usb slot that I have a USB hub plugged into, so my 2.4 ghz headphones dongle switches over seamlessly too

Also, bugs can be a problem in towers because the electricity & warmth attracts them, but mice aren't really that kind of problem. Mice need a space as wide as their head to fit in, so unless you've got an open slot as wide as like a nickel or quarter leading to the interior you should be fine.

my tower is under the desk but its on a little platform with wheels so i can easily move it out to clean or rearrange cords, it's all very convenient. i would never keep it up on top of the desk, takes up too much space.
