I keep remembering this episode of "I Shouldn't Be Alive" (minutes 32:54-35:30). An American family got stranded in the AZ desert, and the dad walked for ages trying to get help. Two white dudes in a truck pull up and he thinks he's saved. They assume he's illegal, spit on him, & leave him for dead.
There are portions of society who've been so deeply steeped in racist,dehumanizing propaganda for so long,they think nothing of the suffering of any1 viewed as an "outgroup".This is what ethnonationalism and painting empathy as "toxic" creates.These mentalities have no place in a just,modern society
