It is absolutely criminal that as the GOP crows about urban crime, every Dem isn’t on TV saying, “Look, Larry Hogan is a so-called ‘moderate’ Republican and crime in his state’s largest city has plummeted since he was replaced by a Democrat.”

I don't get how people don't realize that a technology that replaces junior and entry level positions in a field destroys that field. There's no skipping steps. You have to be a junior before you can be a senior, and if you don't have senior people, you don't have a field.

I can only speak for the US, but norms have shifted BECAUSE of the economic realities. I don’t think they can be separated. The fact that affording kids or a home seems ever more impossible, is part of why priorities changed. Regression in MAGA men’s attitudes towards women’s rights is a reason too.

Indeed. It took a couple months of “centrists” trying to dominate the conversation, before it became extremely obvious that they were just being active saboteurs, to a voterbase that was already ready for something further left and more sincere. I hope the UK realizes this much faster than us.
To gauge how it’s “working,” one would have to be clear on what the actual work is, which is not helping to educate children but rather to imbed these systems in a way that they cannot be removed, establish them as a source of truth, and destabilize labor.
California and Florida are on opposite ends of the school-closure spectrum and the differences in test scores are a wash. Some individual schools and districts definitely stayed closed too long but it just isn’t the case that this is some huge, obvious, foreseeable blunder.
This ‘blue states closed schools too long’ narrative is becoming increasingly entrenched in the Polite Center but it’s arguable at best. Republican states had far more deaths during COVID and their students have roughly comparable learning loss.

Two white dudes in a truck pull up and he thinks he's saved. They assume he's illegal, spit on him, & leave him for dead.

We need to build some real social stigma around being afraid of cities. You don't have to like them or live there, but a politics built this strongly around watching TV and going "ewww" is embarrassing, and people should be embarrassed by it. It's like "fear of werewolves" being your top issue.
