When Paul asks the reverend mother about the other men who have done the box test. He asks “they tried and failed?” And she replies “they tried and died!” It’s a silly (to me, affectionately) line, and they took it out.

Agreed. I do like it, and I’m glad there are some more nods (at least in the first one, I haven’t seen the second one) to parts of the book about Jessica. The Bene Gesserit were always the most interesting part to me.
