I was always amazed, as a library director, that no one had ever read the complete books they objected to. Someone just told them what was in it. Kind of like they never read their bible.

That’s an excellent idea
I like this rule
Sigh. Do you know I’ve had that done to me? Big box of books, and notes on why it went against scripture, therefore I couldn’t put it on the shelves.🙄
Finally—a rule that demands accountability and understanding. Too often, books are challenged based on rumors or personal bias rather than actual engagement with the material.
can there by typos in the report? if the book report is really good, can the book be burned ad hoc?! (if the report is bad, can the parents be burned?)
Answer to question #3: yes
*gets fire going*
And then, regardless of the quality of the report, the request is categorically denied, because this is America and banning books is something Nazis do.
I think that is an excellent idea.
Minister denzil Carnegie shows up FIRST on your followers And the name comes up on 9 out of 10 people, on my thread It looks like someone is tagging us. His site now reads as spam on bluesky

Dear AI please write me a book report on the "Art of the Deal". Put emphasis on all woke passages and passages supporting DEI policies.
And not use AI for said book report.
I'm good with that.
AND if they use a Generative Pretrained Transformer Large Language Model to write the report for them, their act of plagiarism disqualifies them from ever requesting a book ban ever again!!!
👍
You want them to read? lol.
here's the problem their banned books list -- it's the same as my REQUIRED LEARNING MUST READ: EDUCATIONALLY ENLIGHTENING MUST informational must read Book-List
Run for a seat on the school board. Tell your friends. Most of those seats run unopposed. Most boards have only a handful of people on them. All it takes is 2-3 people running with a purpose to make a book ban happen, so all it would take is 2-3 people running to stop it to block them.
I’m thinking of just that
No Cliff Notes
Confession: I would have recommended a book be banned without having read it. Was for a required college course in Sociology I dreaded taking. That book is where I learned critical thinking. Teacher was definitely an R; he was smart & rational & non-politcal. I was so wrong in the best possible way.
Super. Very rational, common-sense. Will never fly with the White Christian Nationalists.
The book critique has to be duly substantiated and referenced. And if the book critique passes muster, the book only gets removed from Their children’s reading list access not from the library as a whole.
They don’t even realize how books are organized in libraries. They think everything is all together, children’s books in with adult books. They don’t even bother to find out if their library has the books they object to or where they are in the library. That’s because they don’t go to the library.
They would certainly not understand or have heard of the Dewey-decimal system.
Or library of congress system. I have often dared the online warriors to go into their library, see if the books they object to (but haven’t read) are in the library, and where they are shelved. They never do. It’s like they are afraid of the library. Or choose to be ignorant aka ignorati.
yeah, what is likely to happen is AI would read it and write it, maybe they should make a rule that you have to be tested on the report you made and the book itself.
It needs to be in MLA style.
Parents are going to pay an attorney to do this, and all of them are going to deliver the same report. In the end they will keep not reading the books they want to ban.
And the report will be graded by the author who wrote the book. If graded a C or below in accuracy, the book stays where it is.
If this were only true.
Good idea 👍
Hey, that’s a great idea. Let’s get EVERYONE reading and let’s make the society much more learned.
Smart!!!
Also literacy tests for book banning. Maybe they can use some of the tests from Jim Crow days; teach some history at the same time.
If parents wants to police there children’s reading, pay attention to their online history and put up parental blocks. Be apart of your kids life and don’t let the internet be a “babysitting” tool. Same with video games don’t like em don’t play em and use them as
Babysitting tools. Don’t make the rest of us suffer. Libraries are free for a reason. We are supposed to be able read whatever we want and not fear our knowledge taken away from us. Yet that is what is happening In today’s America. It makes me Cry.
Why don’t parents mind their own business. What other kids read is not their concern. Maybe these educated kids can handle the truth.
Nah, they must verbally read it infront of a court of librarians then give a verbal summary and then explain why it should be banned.
As a retired teacher, I would volunteer to evaluate these book reports and presentations.
Hello, and thank you for your message. For further correspondence, please feel free to send a private message
most of the book bans go back to one guy who makes a living by objecting to a book, then the library has a limited time to move it to the adult section, or he collects money from the library. then all the MAGAts copy him bans blindly without knowing he’s doing this for a living.
New rule: A parent who proposes banning a book will be refused, then photographed and publicly shamed for the rest of time. MAGAs have no morals, so they only respond to consequences.
👍
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Simple yet effective. I applaud this rule. It should be immediately implemented.
They will just use AI for the report and use bullet points for the naughty bits from tik tok.
Trying to reason with someone who lacks the ability to reason is like asking a deaf person what they heard.
Come on you know they'd just have ChatGPT write it
Yesss!!! The MAGA doesn’t read shit and yet feels entitled to ban books. White privilege much ??
There are so many rules I’m surprised are not in the law
I wish.
Excellent idea.
The first question on the "Request to Remove a book" form is "Have you read the book" and its believed this question alone stops many people in their tracks.
They’ll claim they have but god forced them to stop when a dude said he loved someone instead of “dominion”
Yes!
Good plan.
Love it. Perfect solution!
Good move
They'll just ask ChatGPT to do it
You will be graded on it and your ability to comprehend and deliver the report will go on your permanent record.
“Hello ChatGPT, please write the most scathing book report about ‘The Grapes of Wrath,’ suitable for getting that book removed from the school library. Thank you for your attention in this matter.”
Sadly now, can't they just have AI do it?
And a verbal presentation maybe
Absolutely. With the author name and illustrator name along with the topic sentence for each paragraph. It also has to be a 5 paragraph paper with an intro, three supporting paragraphs, and a conclusion.
AND said essay needs to be graded by the most exacting ELA teacher in the district. If they fail to prove they read for comprehension, their complaint is dismissed, and they cannot file another for a year - or more.
I don’t know though, it could backfire like the bodycams on police did.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
As it should be 📚
Exactly
As I already posted, no book banning period. If you don't want your kids to read a certain book, fine that's your decision for only your family. But you don't get to decide what Janie reads. That is up to her family. See how that works?
Not just parents. No one, period.
Old rule: any book with obvious sexual illustrations or content cannot be submitted as educational materials.
So you object to books that teach children about their own bodies? Define sexual illustrations or content.
Also: forcing people to read books they don't want to read in order to prove or show they read them is equateable to forced religion. Under this rule you'd be forced to not only read the Bible but show you read it with a proper summary
It's still obvious though that y'all are willing to put every hurtle in front of parents to not sexualize children.
You are profoundly ignorant. You want to ban books you know nothing about because you heard a rumor from someone else who also hasn’t read the book. You are terrified of having to read books. Then you wonder why you have no credibility.
I know right? It's like these degenerates want kids to know about their bodies! At this rate, no pastor will be safe from sexual assault charges!
No, but it's obvious you're dumber than the gravel on ground outside the library. Life tip: have you tried not being an idiot?
Or your saying you wouldn't accept being forced to read the Bible to have it banned?
Your claim is that you are not pushing sexual material involving sexual orientation into school libraries against federal regulations?
Not at all. My claim is that you're an idiot. Thank you for proving my point.
Not unless you prove that I'm wrong. Considering you started your reply with no to ignore my claim
Yawn, troll.
🥱
Watching out! The schools are trying to trans the kids! Kids who have to worry about school shootings should not be exposed to nipples!
The "rule" is no sexual material - in written word or illustration - that was created for the sole purpose of sexual arousal (the definition of pørn).
solution based thinking 🤔 😊
Where I live, the rule is: "A parent may not propose removing a book from the library."
Where is that?
What a great idea!
With AI I feel like they should also be required to defend their report in oral examination before a panel of five librarians.
this!
YES!!😄😄😄
Have you read it? How about CAN you read anything longer than a social media post? Can you focus on & comprehend the written word? I know this is probably mean but...I'm very frustrated ATM.
I get it - truly.
Nobody loves you.
I require a B grade in addition. If you can’t manage a B book report on a book read by primary and secondary school students then you’re too damn stupid to weigh in on the matter. #MakeDumbFucks #AshamedAgain
the bible needs to go
Idk man, they can’t even articulate accurate points from the one book they love so much, seems like it’s setting the bar extremely high.
you're right, we should just kill them instead
Good
In a central Ohio suburb, got some folks throwing some rocks at “The Hatchet“ I guess the dad’s affair has some folks feeling itchy.
great idea!! but just a slight grammar suggest..... the "only" in line 1 is not needed---just the 1 in line 3 would be best. it reads fine with only one "only"... tho all alone it might be a bit lonely!!
Absolutely agree.
New Rule: Parents free to opt out their own children, but not other people’s kids. Books selected by professional librarians stay on the shelves!
Opt out should be that the parent tells their bastards to not to check out said books from the library. End of story.
Yep - if they want to police their own kid’s reading, they can search their kid’s backpack. Leave everyone else out of their battles with their Imaginary Sky Daddy.
We recalled our book banning schoolboard lady
🎉🎉
Add a 2 page report on why the book should be banned with accompanying medical, psychological evidence from reputable sources of any harm that would be done if the book is not removed.
👍got my vote
👏🏻
no, but reddit told me
WTF😱🤬!
Great! Most of them can't read.
Yup, turn in your darn book report to you local schoolmarm…. ON TIME! Everyone is so smart & capable & sure of themselves until they’re asked to do a 5th grade learning task.
MAGA parents don’t read—and in the rare chance they do, they’ve got about a 5th grade comprehension level. Idiocracy at its finest 🤬
This, precisely. Many (if not most) of these numbnuts complaining about books haven't actually read a book in their entire lives, even including their own Bible. I doubt a lot of them could even pass an 8th grade English exam.
Counter offer: This is the sentence automatically handed down to anyone attempting to ban a book. It is compounded by each book they tried to ban. They lose all access to the Internet until they are finished each and every report. No book bans on the table at all.
People should mind their own damn business. If you think banning a book will keep your child from reading it you forget what you were like as a child. If you try to hide it from them, they will find it another way. We are not a monolithic society and understanding the "different" is about education.
uhhh, you mean like 1st grade reading class?
You know some of the same books banned by the far right, in your area, are also banned on my area, but by the far left. Example being The Handmaid's Tale. The far left in Toronto banned it under the guise it was racist, while the far right ban it because women equality.
you suck at posting. you should lurk more
[Citation needed even more than you need to lose your virginity]
Fake. Fake story. The right are literally the ones banning it ccla.org/press-releas...
Lie ⬆️
Why, yes, it *is* incredibly obvious that you’re lying about the “far left” here. Have you ever wondered why your political beliefs require you to be dishonest?
You are a lying dumbass. Delete your account
What the fuck are you talking about?
Lol. Define far left
you know somehow i strongly doubt that you live in China, Vietnam, Laos, or Cuba.
Far left organized over this? Doubt it
That sounds made up!
Tell me you've never read The Handmaid's Tale without telling me that you've never read The Handmaid's Tale.
If only there were some sort of organization in Canada where we could verify the accuracy of that information... www.freedomtoread.ca/challenged-w...
A single parent? Cmon idiot
Reading comprehension, friend. You might need to spend more time in the library.
Also notable, The Handmaid's Tale is in the Toronto Public Library's Book Sanctuary along with 49 other frequently challenged books. TPL joined the international Book Sanctuary movement to ensure anyone with a library card had access to these books. toronto.overdrive.com/collection/1...
Far something but not left
So, not banned
Is the "far left" in the room with you now? Made up bullshit
There's exactly one place in the book where race is even alluded to and it's in the context of black people being persecuted Just stop making shit up. It's not smart. It's not even clever
It's obvious that this three-brain-celled troll doesn't even know what the book is about, much less ever read it.
Source?
OP pulled it out of their ass lol
Banned in Toronto? When? By whom?
you know, that time that the far left were in power
Who?
Farouk and Lefty
Not in Toronto sweetie 😘
she was joking sweetie 😘
When was that?
you don't remember? the far left? they ran on the slogan "when we we're in power, toronto, stop reading!"
No I don’t. Who was this?
sometimes i just say words and describe things i made up in my imagination, my mom says im very creative
It's honestly impressive to be simultaneously as wrong and as unfunny and as unoffensive as this account. Normally, even the most vile person is going to hit one of those notes, at least accidentally, but not this guy. A whole feed of "huh, he really thought he was doing something here". It's art
I guess I have to give up my attempt on banning the Bible....
Why, in the first place, should they have the right to demand a book removed from a library? What's wrong with you people?
The million $ question
They already get told to stop reading out loud or they will be thrown out of meetings for reading that crap in front of adults. Are you high or something?
Capital idea!
Amen
👏👏👏👏
A parent who wants a book banned should not provide their child with a cell phone..
🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯
The report must be at least 6 sheets long from both sides and APPA complying...
Excellent Librarians!
And sit an hour long exam to ensure they have read AND understood the book.
Assuming said parents can actually read.
That would definitely shut down all the nonsense!
We don’t require six pages, but we do require a fairly detailed analysis. The mothers for liberty and announce circulating a spreadsheet to avoid the need to actually read.
Not sure exactly what you’re saying here past the first sentence. Point made!!
Sorry, my arthritis is bad so I was trying to use voice recognition. I’ve been a librarian since the 1980s. We have always required folks challenging books to submit a detailed objection. Mom‘s for Liberty announce books and circulate a spreadsheet.
The spreadsheet makes it possible for those who are illiterate or illiterate to submit challenges with the required documentation. But in many states there is now a remarkable presumption that a book complained of is removed until proven virtuous.
Love it!!
Yes.
I 2nd the motion!
Ah rules, those were the days
I remember when I was in high school there was a series of novels that were "banned" from the school's lobby. Turns out, what really happened is the school purchased updated volumes of several reference books and the extra space they needed meant something had to go...
what's the relevance to the topic at hand? you seem to be attempting to undermine the fact that books are, in fact, banned from schools.
They picked this particular fiction series because none of its books had been checked out more than once in several years and because it gave them *just* enough extra space. The books were donated to the county library and thus still available to students to reserve via ILL.
MAGA moms plan to ban all coloring books since some child might use the wrong color
I mean, I get the purpose. You want to check the content of a book, fair. And I may take this out of proportion, but wouldn't this just be logistically... A nightmare? Couldn't this also delve into censorship territory? Or what if two parents conflict between opinions on if a book is "Ok" or not.
Quick side-note there is a book on censorship of books. While I understand some literature may conflict with personal/religious/political belief, I don't believe that this is enough to bottleneck the free flow of ideas that come into literature. At what point would removing books stop? SlipperySlope
We have someone running for our board of education that loves trying to ban books. Can’t wait to help take him down.
This is not likely to be an issue. There are tons of them in children's libraries in school's that are so graphic Democrats can't handle them being read at school board meetings.
republicans cannot read so that will stuff them up lol.
How else can they support banning a book without reading it? It doesn’t make sense otherwise.
The Minster of Education in Albert who announced the ban, stated he had not read the books he specifically mentioned.
Umm then I won’t be able to submit 20 removal requests per day.
One per year - make it count. ;)
Just bc u feel your child is too immature to read a book, it doesn't mean my child is. When my son was 12, he had the reading comprehension of a 21 yo. So they're telling me, I can only let my child read books of the velveteen rabbit variety, bc their child isn't above 6 - 8 yo comprehension?
I was 10 when my Mother got me an adult readers card, mainly for access to proper science books and stalp catalogues. A hushed conversation ensued where the librarian explained that "he could take out ANY book..." My mother absolved them of liability and I got my adult readers card!
Once I was called to the school for my son. They gave me his "Book of Nod" telling me he had this book. I guess trying to inform me that he was carrying this book. I told them, I knew because I bought him the book. They were shocked. We argued about it. They told me he shouldn't be reading the book.
I told them, I saw no harm in him reading the book. "The Book of Nod tells the creation myth of vampires, following Caine, the 1st vampire and the biblical first murderer." They argued more. Till it was done, he had to keep the book at home and not bring to school. But I made it clear they wouldn't
...tell me what my children could or could not read. This was in the late 80s.
I'm not aware of the book. But I'm born 1977 so a similar age thing applies! My Mother was conservative, but not an oppressive one. She loved books herself and wasn't afraid of them in general. In the 80s she was more afraid of the "Video Nasty", so it was the 1990s before I git video card!
Its a d&d book. He was interested in it cause of the origins of Lilith and her being called mother of vampires. It pulled from various religious texts. It was something he was interested at the time. And yes, my son was born in '78, so a very similar age time frame. Nice thing about that age period,
....was that schools were afraid of parents. We could fight them on points, and they'd cave to them. I taught my kids to question everything. Just cause someone says it's this way, look it up/study it and form your own opinion about it. Don't just believe it's a particular way cause someone said so.
What country are you from Lee? In Ireland we have a much freer school system, based on religion or not religion, so we have state funded Judaism, RC, 7th day adventist, prodestant, muslim, non demonilation, siek, jainist, you name it... State funded.
I'm in the US. I was born in Pennsylvania (Reading area. (Between Philadelphia and Harrisburg)). I now live in Florida (Pensacola (panhandle)). My kids still live in Pennsylvania (Lancaster area)). I don't know about school systems here in Florida (I can only imagine), but in Reading/Lancaster area
Simply because I was aware of an issue, I went, what is the issue.. and I found Dr. Ruth, Joy of Sex, it was there. Tick. Aviation was always my passion and I found "Fear of Flying" by Erica Jong when I was about 14...... The librarian was right, I could take out any book. I took out neither....
What I remember most was "1st Class", Irish primary school age 7.. We had to pick a book from the school library and pick a friend to give it to.. Mine was refused as it was too grown up..! "How Airports Work - London Heathrow " was the book .. A kids book about airports.!
Wow. Now that's so wrong. I would have loved a book like that as a kid.
For more news and details, follow us.
The haters will use anything to put their hate into the world. I doubt if many of them even read.
You need policies and procedures!
If only
Works for me!!
That will eliminate most of MAGA, they can't read.
Most books on banned book list are must reads unless you never want to have information and equity. Knowledge eliminates ignorance and enhances education. Books foster imagination, educate people & can reduce implicit biases. Many who ban books would rather live in a bubble than support diversity.
I propose h*rry potter as it promotes bigotry
Then 1 person would read and write it up to be copied and submitted by Karen's everywhere. At the hearing there should be a test on said report!
And an oral presentation of the report
They'll just have ChatGPT write it for them. They must be interviewed and answer basic questions about the book in person to make sure they've read it. Then I will accept complaints.
OMG.
the adult must also eat the book in its entirety on camera and post it
They should not take "The Diary of Anne Frank", I have read, and I found it touching and sad.
When I was in 4th grade, our class read it together. I then visited the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum when I was 13. I sobbed. Because I read the first hand account of what that little girl went through. We NEED books like that not only for history, but to also make sure that empathy isn’t lost
I agree with you. We need more books like this.
🙌
New rule - school board members that ban books to be flogged in the public square
How about we just keep religions lie out of school and educate instead of indoctrinate.
And no cherry-picking bible verses to support the thesis of the book report, which I do know is different from an academic paper.
That sounds like an excellent idea. I think. Most of these people like to ban books have never read a book or even know how to read.
I propose a revised rule. No parent may propose removing or censuring a book. End of rule. Rule also to apply to non-parents.
If Libraries are community institutions, then the community should have some say, but sweeping book bans shouldn't be possible under any circumstances and School Boards shouldn't have the authority to define when and where a book is appropriate.
You’re needlessly opening a Pandora’s box of liberal institutionalism. Always a mistake.
I think you're opening your own Pandora's box, I might be misunderstanding you, but you are implying giving a small group sole authority over what information is accessible in school and public libraries. because "parents" and "non-parents" basically covers all community members.
I think either I’m not fully clear or you are misunderstanding me. I’m against all censorship, by anyone.
Probably a little bit of both I am in complete agreement with you, regarding being against all censorship. I just think that until we make the Library of Babel real, deciding whether a book should be on the shelf or in a storage room is a legitimate concern in some cases.
We’re very close to the same position.
YES!!
There should be a discussion with other readers as well.
That's what our school system does. A committee of parents and community members reads the book and discusses it. Of the five books that recently had complaints, each committee voted unanimously to leave the book on the shelf.
Great plan but I don’t think they read.
Written by them, not AI.
and must get an A+ on that report
Everyone has the power to prevent child abuse. Vote Democrat!
Like when we pay billions of dollars to drop 2000 lb bombs on children?
That would require the ability to read. No?
You know they’ll just use AI…have to make it a live Q&A or at least the old AR reading quizzes
Oh, I like this idea.
Deduct points for sloppy citation form. Insist on footnotes.
That would do a lot to eliminate the right wing cut and paste protest movement
Yeaahh😄
The assumption that children want to read books (in general) may be a misguided principal, but for the chosen few with the correct disposition, they're smart enough to toss out wrong or useless information anyway. Arm children with facts, and fallacy is of no consequence.
No book should be removed from a library. If a parent doesn’t want their child to read it, then they should not allow their child to read it.
1000%
Read the book? what’s this new socialist conspiracy.
Start with the Bible.
Rather optimistic of you to assume that most fundamentalists and GOP...read. 😁
That means Trump can only comment on Archie and Jughead
Love it!
New rule: You can only have kids if you pass a battery of tests showing you know how to actually raise a human.
This remedy exploits a few pathways Bravo
Plagiarized and AI book reports will not receive consideration.
🎯🎯🎯
100% agree! Some parents will never finish the book!
Plus the report has to cite the passages the parent finds objectionable, alongside an affidavit swearing that there’s nothing in their home or their kid’s search history that is not comparably inappropriate or objectionable. Cuz I assure you, Liberty Moms, your kids are watching porn online.
Never see another book get banned for no reason again...love it
Make that an *oral* report, so we know they didn't just print some shit out with ChatGPT.
If they use Chat GPT to write it, they have to wear the bloody diapers. 💀
Inb4 they ask Grok to do it for them.
That rules out MAGA morons.
LOL...problem solved.
And thats, that!
And if they still want to ban a book from library after reading and book report THEY MUST prove they have a child of appropriate age. No more Daughter of Confederacy spinsters.
And that they even live in the school district they're trying to cause trouble in.
Sounds good to me
