Preliminary injunctions are supposed to preserve the status quo while the case proceeds. The district court's injunction did that. Halting it allows the government to proceed with kicking people out of the military while the case is still pending. It's absurd.

I thought the whole point of injunctions like this was to keep the status quo (or the least disruptive option) to give courts time to hear and decide? Surely firing (and potentially rehiring) thousands of troops is more disruptive than not?

"Defund the police" means literally getting rid of all law enforcement. "Abolish ICE" means abolishing the Immigration and Customs Enforcement division. Two *very* different things.
Reducing police funds and de-militarizing them is part of the objective, moving those excess funds to actual services to help the poor and homeless would do loads better to stop crime from even happening in the first place. It’s common sense.
