deeply infuriating to see the extent to which they are doing the opposite of the successful authoritarian consolidation playbook and having remarkable success anyway

Seems pretty easy to conclude that having control of a complicit media is 90% of the ball game, the rest is window dressing.
that's because of the decades spent breaking the average american and training them to function under extreme cognitive dissonance 😎👆👉
In general, a remarkable success looks more like Bukele in El Salvador someone who actually is able to maintain high public support for their actions by leveraging actual fears of the public and appearing to address them. A smarter Trump would have waited for an actual crisis to do this shit.
"Big Balls" got roughed up by a couple teenagers in DC, that was the excuse.
I guess that's one way to make sure every state actually has, by necessity, a well-regulated militia
They took the alternative approach of corrupting the judicial branch.
What’s the measure of success?
If you were trying to create a carnation revolution how would you go about doing it?
Trump as a mean, unprincipled cheat?… what a shock⚡️⚡️
he's "running the country like a business" this is exactly what he meant by that lol
Let’s hope he’s too dumb to change course.
I was contemplating this today. People keep referencing Hitler, but a hallmark of fascism in that time was ensuring that government and infrastructure were functioning perfectly. How they ensured support at home. What enamored the elite of other countries as well.
I was primarily referencing the perceived rescue of the German economy after 1933, but wasn’t clear that it was a perception of function and efficiency rather than a reality of same. To contrast the absolute chaos and disaster our current fascists are creating.
It's a myth that the old-school fascists made the trains run on time.
i mean, that was the ILLUSION to be sure; the reality was much, much different it wasn't so much that the trains ran on time as people put effort into making it LOOK like they did because they'd be shot otherwise but the MAGA regime isn't even interested in LOOKING "efficient" outside of brutality

Ehhhh... this is the kind of thing that comes back to bite you when the protesters surround the presidential palace and you need the troops to fire on them to disperse them.
Reading about what a skilled politician Victor Orban is, and how he managed to consolidate power over a long period of time. Trump, in contrast, is an unpopular idiot in a nation with (supposedly) advanced and powerful liberal institutions. And yet Trump is authoritarianing at warp speed.
Shit like this is the reason I rail against business majors.
🇵🇹🌹
"WE WILL NOT REST as long as we don't have to stay in washington or anger our republican colleagues"
i mean, him pissing off his own shock troops at the jump is the one bit of this i approve of.
A new and interesting spin on the playbook by going “what if we made all the professional violence doers really mad instead of promising them a plush position in the new world order”
I keep thinking about this from the National Guard to CIA, DEA, FBI etc Literally tens of thousands of specially drained violence doers that you’ve totally pissed off
Regularly see people say he's using the "authoritarian playbook" and while I'm not disputing that shit like this suggests his reading comprehension is less than excellent.
He's using the chatgpt bullet point summary of the authoritarian playbook.
Well, it’s a cult
pissing off the rank and file is a bold move, let's see if it pays off
day ain't over yet
Yuuuup. Very few groups loved trump as much as veterans.
You're getting military veterans mixed up with police. I believe military was about 50/50 while police were 75/25
LMAO www.msn.com/en-us/news/p...
Ah you're right. I was thinking of active, which split a lot more evenly. Active cops are very Trumpy while military are much less so.
Active duty reflects a much younger demo than X, therefore a more even split.
Key things to remember is there are a lot of Gen X veterans and guess how white dudes that are Gen X voted? Now add the generally more GOP group that makes up veterans into that. It's not great!
I'm a white Gen X veteran who is no longer GOP if it helps.
It does! Just that statistically you are extremely in the minority
Also just in case anyone is wondering because I sure as hell was, The picture above is from 2019, not current. **FIXING THIS AS MY FIRST SAID 2001 BECAUSE I CANNOT TYPE
