It's due to the "possible" tarrifs on the contents which cannot be determined unless the parcel is opened.
The USA is also introducing new customs clearance regulations. These differ greatly from the Universal Postal Union’s previous regulations. Now, all goods to the USA must be shipped with customs duties ALREADY PAID. Plus, nobody knows if there will be different rules next week...
The US government has decided that the current exemption limit of USD 800 for goods imported into the USA will be removed as of 29 August 2025. Without this limit, every goods consignment – no matter the size or value – must be declared and cleared with US customs.
