I always wondered whether they understood that the government overreach they were going to fight wasn’t coming in the form of university professors and social workers, but in the form of police and soldiers (that is, their heroes).
Mace is just an ad for the necessity of mental health services at this point. I get that she feels empowered in Congress, but it's not a positive thing for her. Too much stress, too easy access to people who will platform her struggles for ratings.

That’s plausible. Consider, though, the theory that Americans are willing to accept a very high price for their amusements, and sometimes even their habits. Brain damage is the price for football; car accidents the price for excessive speed limits and (in one state I know) lax drunk driving laws.
It took decades to wean Americans off smoking. Poor diet is treated here as an intractable & somewhat mysterious problem. And gun violence is regarded as an acceptable price for public infatuation with guns — not for traditional hunting, but for trivial pastimes like target shooting.
