Hey, question for BlackSky: I turn 42 in November…and I still have zero tattoos. If I were to consider getting tattoos at this stage, would that be viewed as a “midlife crisis” move? *NOTE: I was never opposed to tattoos…my indecisive ADHD-head ass could never just settle on a fitting design

Nope. Getting tattoos is just a fun activity. You can cover it, add to it, or remove it later if you want. I’m getting a new tattoo next month. And looking forward to it.

That note is EXACTLY why I don't have one. I'm 42 now and may still do it. I have been eyeing one that's a sketch of bird of paradise filled with watercolor. I operate on the never too late principal. Do that shit if you're moved to.

Life is too short to worry about age as a factor in how you decorate your body. If you want them, get the tattoos. I said tattoos because after the first one, you won't stop.

I got a tatt when I got divorced after 30 years. A lotus, a beautiful flower that emerges from mud. I was 51, celibate (not my choice) in my marriage for 10 years. It was a moment of freedom.
Depends on that tattoo. If it's something personal that you're prideful about? No. Midlife crisis averted. If it's just something goofy that everyone else gets like a tribal tat? Yeah. Midlife crisis afoot.
I got my first tattoo in my 20s, more in my 30s and 40s, and recently got my latest in my 50s. At no point have I questioned whether I was too old or young. Just go for it: it's your body and your life!

I have a tattoo on my wrist and I forget that I have it sometimes lol. Also, You never actually know when you're going to go, so "midlife" could be at any time, youre *in* life

I'm a white guy but I'm 51, so I'll chime in: do what makes you happy. If you want a tattoo, get a tattoo. If you want two sleeves, get 'em. Life's too short to worry about whether you're too old to do something. If you still can, you aren't.

No because it is a form of expression. Personally, I don't have a tattoo because I'm not a fan of needles. Which is why I prefer henna or temporary tattoos.
Oh honey, we’re the same age. I got my first tattoo on my 40th birthday. … then got my second and third a year later. It’s a half sleeve now. (Elbow down to wrist) I finally realized, life was too short to not be the real me. I consider myself a painting in the making.

I started at 45 I am now 53 and completely out of skin besides my face Call it midlife crisis if you want I've always wanted them but could never find anything to commit to and never had the finances to do it right If you want something and you like something don't worry about other people

That was me. Having both the conviction and the money at the same time kept me from doing anything for the longest time. I’ve gotten three in the past two years. Two I loove, one I won’t say I love but it was meaningful to get and I’m not sorry. Planning away for what’s next. Go for it!
IMO - tattoos are more fun to contemplate than to get and then no regerts to boot
I got my 1st around age 40. I don't have the greatest skin so space was limited & I wanted to make sure any tattoos I ever got were worth the space on my body. I have three now and I'm prepping for my fourth - I really love them & I can't really say that about my skin in general. Go for it!

My mom got her first tattoo at 45 and she went all out on a full thigh piece and is happy as a clam. If her decision to get a tattoo happens to fall into the "midlife crisis" category then it doesn't sound so bad to me! I say if you want it then go for it - "crisis" label be damned!
I don’t know what or why it matters if it’s a midlife thing or not so long as you want the tattoo? Don’t do it bc it’s midlife, but if now is the time you’ve decided, go for it.

As someone who has tattoos I wish I hadn’t gotten lol, I feel like this is honestly a smart idea to wait and think it through.

It's not. First of all, you haven't hit middle age yet (just roll with it). Second of all I only consider it to be a crisis if you're doing it for show and not for a meaning/purpose. Decorate your body however you want. And don't listen to people who say it can affect your professional life.
I relate! It may be a little midlife crisis, but oh well! I want a tattoo but ADHD! I got a henna tattoo of what I thought I wanted and where I wanted it. I hated it after 2 days. I was so glad it would fade after week or two
Naw I feel like you can get a tattoo at anytime for whatever. It took me until my mid 30s and surviving cancer.

I prefer to call it a mid-life rebrand. But getting tattoos wouldn’t be a mid-life crisis move imo.
