This one is an absolute banger imo "Central Valley state legislators must support SB 79, to fix the broken system that allows wealthy coastal cities to pass off their responsibility– and forces our Central Valley communities to be overrun with traffic, pollution, and sprawling developments."

YIMBY makes a fundamentally NIMBY argument to support YIMBY politics?

I honestly don't see it that way in the context of Modesto Chris is working really hard to bring more housing to Modesto, especially downtown! And unlike Bay Area suburban NIMBYs, he doesn't really get to reap the benefits of Bay Area economic growth to do so

I agree, but the argument (increasing traffic in CV) is designed to appeal to the NIMBY sentiment to encourage YIMBY. That also makes it a powerful argument to change NIMBY minds. (My parents live near downtown Modesto btw! I visit often. Love the parks.)

This was also a reason that one of the caucuses in the California Democratic Party that endorsed SB79 and worked to get the party to back it was the Rural Caucus.

supercommuting isn't about poor people ... driving your car 3 hours a day is expensive! It's about having a standalone house on an acre plot where you can keep a horse. Stanislaus County could do zoning to control their own problem of preserving farmland but simpler to demand Other People shape up

affordable housing in the Bay Area is an obvious need, but not to preserve feefees in the Valley

I especially appreciate Chris writing this because I about lost my mind when I saw Merced & Los Banos signed on in opposition to SB 79 He's absolutely right imo that this bill is a huge win for Valley cities that for too long have been the dumping ground for the Bay Area's housing failures!
