It’s like when you forget an actors name, but you remember every single thing they’ve ever been in, even the weird ketchup ads from when they were just starting out. You can rattle off their full biography. Do you remember their name? Do you balls!

I think of it as words being on strings above my head, like kites. I reach for a string and can’t garauntee I’ll grab the right string. Sometimes it’s like playing 6 degrees of separation with language.

It really is an exercise in vocabulary..the word you need eludes you, so you spend an embarrassing amount of time using 374 *other* words to describe the thing. And it's never a cute as calling cinnamon "spicy sugar"

I had a teen tell me a few months ago that they didn't understand how I can be so good with other languages and have an obnoxious and inappropriate (like too formal) vocabulary and yet fail all the time to manifest the simplest words in English. Well, give it 30 years and you'll see...
