Why are (some) people pretending to be surprised by Tim Minchin’s terrible opinions? He has often been deployed on shows to air his ignorance and suffocatingly juvenile opinions on things he has no idea about.

He looks like he needs a wash and a haircut.
He does described himself on X as a "wanker", so at least he has some self awareness.
Not enough if he keeps treading on himself
He thinks he owns the "lefties bubble" argument 🙄
Probably not the only thing he thinks he owns
The condescension involved in telling artists to ‘do the reading’ when we’ve had almost 2 yrs of war crimes beamed directly to our screens (in spite of the IDF’s best efforts in assassinating 174+ journalists)
He can write a song and a joke. He was smart enough to do well at school. He is from the kind of background where I'm guessing his opinions haven't ever really been questioned, so he thinks they're facts. So he has never really had to shut his mouth and engage his brain.
The only times he has hit my awareness was with his Matilda musical production, which was entertaining, and his song featuring a rant about alternative medicine called Storm which was also fun a decade ago. I think my wife mentioned a comedy series he featured in about a piano.
I hear Matilda is really good, but musicals are not my thing so have no real idea. He’s been in a couple of things but is usually on Adam Hills hosted shows to say something nobody else will because he’s reliably stupid.
Indeed
Christ Church Grammar School alumni. Enough said.
I thought I was the only one who thought along these lines. I agree with what is said in this thread.
The music was enough for me to tune him out tbh.
He seems to know how to write a musical. People like Matilda. But yeah, the persona he projects into the media has never really impressed me. Or the comedy schtick, but that’s entirely subjective
I mean he has a song about sitting on the fence being a virtuous quality. What an inspiration.
The guy is nudging 50 and he’s still spouting undergraduate drivel
Well, so am I but at least I admit it
He's an insufferable twat.
His public persona is certainly not particularly endearing. I’ve met enough prominent people to know they’re often not the same as their public persona and they’ve sometimes turned out to be really nice or quite awful, contrary to their media vibe. So that’s why I make the distinction.
I’m afraid to ask what he’s done now.
Best you don’t know. Some interview he did where he did what he often does - opines on things he’s not really across thereby negating his already painfully silly point.
I Googled. Could have predicted the headline (meaning, I more or less did).
He’s one of those people who is convinced everything he says is gold. If ever I’m even remotely famous and I behave like him, I expect each and every one of you to drag me in the DMs, in the timeline and IRL.
‘Come Home Cardinal Pell’, is the only TM creation I’ve liked.
I mean folks do it already but I’m being specific here.
