curious how many people have experienced the minor (but sometimes major) orthopedic injuries associated with parenting young kids - straining your back while picking up babies, strollers, etc - having a toddler jump on you - injuring yourself while sleep-deprived at 2 am etc

Twisted my ankle missing the last stair on our front porch while carrying a sleeping child to the car on the way to the airport.

Broke toe carrying ~4 year old into our bed early one morning by kicking the shit out of the foot of the bed. Broke foot when kid wanted to race in backyard -- stepped off patio into yard, landed awkward, foot gave out sideways.

This! No one prepared me for the amount of unintentional nut shots I would receive from toddlers as a parent. I'm finally at the point (I think) where I can guard against them, but getting there...man.

I was helping my 4-yr-old into the car this morning, and without warning, he jumped up, seized the grab handle on the car ceiling and kicked his legs out, nailing me right in the gut. Never let your guard down.

I'm 66 and still have a shoulder/rhomboid issue that started with carrying him and a diaper bag. My sacroiliac issues started during pregnancy. Now he's 37 and just got married.

One that I almost never hear talked about is the horrible indigestion that comes from scarfing your food like a monster so that you won’t be otherwise indisposed if the kids need something. It’s a purely subconscious thing new parents do. I thought I was dying until I figured out what was going on.

Feel like the incidence of ortho injuries for new parents must be high — all my friends have a tale of woe* — but I’ve never seen data on it, or really an article. * a few years ago, with our first kid, I broke my toe trying to dodge stuff on the floor while doing 2 am parenting

I definitely pulled my back out taking the stroller out of the car or lifting heavy sports stuff when 18 was little. He also whacked me in the face when he was 3 and scratched my cornea. Good times.

I developed carpal tunnel and thoracic outlet syndromes on both sides from lifting and carrying my youngest. Took two years of specialist exercises and an expensive combined course of physiotherapy and acupuncture to cure it. So, yes - I think you're onto something.

Being headbutted in the face because you leant down to kiss the baby at the exact moment it learned to stand up (Bonus if it hits you just right so your own teeth pierce your lip)

Dude, it's all of us. I had to do a week of zoom meetings with a black eye because of an overly excited/aggressive swing with a full sippy cup. Every parent on the calls was like "yeah, been there"

I had back surgery when I was 28 so when I pick up my sons, I definitely feel it and strained myself or when my 2 year old dives on me when I am in bed. Or being bed-ridden for a couple days because I went to pick up something he knocked over.
