I’ve heard from Democrats + public health people who interpret Trump’s post today as bad for RFK Jr People in Trump’s orbit and in admin tell me nothing has changed: RFK Jr retains full support. (Per our article, which ran online yesterday and on front page of WaPo this morning)

Seeing much debate over Trump’s latest remarks on covid and RFK Jr Some relevant reporting Yesterday: Steve Bannon told WaPo (left) that he wanted Trump to post asap on TruthSocial, and his admin to push on vaccine data Today: Trump posts a TruthSocial (right), demanding more covid vaccine data

Still, some in Trump's orbit say they would like to see the White House be more hands-on. Bannon suggested that Trump should use his Truth Social media platform to defend Kennedy's moves at CDC ahead of his scheduled appearance before a Senate panel Thursday, when senators are expected to press him on that and other controversial decisions. He also called on Kennedy's HHS to more aggressively promote its efforts and better explain the secretary's agenda, arguing that could help win over the independent voters the party will need next year. Donald J. Trump 0 € @realDonald Trump It is very important that the Drug Companies justify the success of their various Covid Drugs. Many people think they are a miracle that saved Millions of lives. Others disagree! With CDC being ripped apart over this question, I want the answer, and I want it NOW. I have been shown information from Pfizer, and others, that is extraordinary, but they never seem to show those results to the public. Why not??? They go off to the next

Why is Trump letting RFK Jr dismantle agencies and upend public health? Shared grievances and skepticism about vaccines, a growing personal bond — and a belief that it’s good politics. Inside their alliance, with @emilydavies.bsky.social and Natalie Allison www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

Hearing that these tips are helpful so pasting them here

Training tips for parents Torn muscles and broken bones remain a small price to pay for the joy of having children. But that doesn't mean we have to grit our teeth and bear it. Here's the advice I've gleaned after two kids, multiple doctors' appointments and numerous interviews. Build core strength whenever you can. Experts recommended a variety of exercises - weight-training, yoga, Pilates, swimming, biking - to strengthen necks, backs, shoulders and trunks. Focus on proper form. Mansfield's colleagues at Ohio State prepared videos that demonstrate how to lift a child, pick up a car seat and complete other tasks that are often associated with repetitive-strain injuries. Don't bend if you don't need to. Jegede, a parent of two young children, said he developed a technique to combat his own back pain: sitting down on the ground next to a stroller to strap his children in, rather than attempting to bend over from a standing position. Do a bag check. Jegede also recommended a Clear a path. This was a hard-won lesson after I broke my toe in the middle of the night. Every evening, we now spend a few minutes picking up toys and clearing the floor. It's helped reduce painful missteps when rushing through a dark house to attend to a crying child. Break up workouts - or rethink them. Those 90-minute gym trips may be on hold, but a 20-minute workout at your house doesn't need to be. Several experts recommended seeking out other ways to stay active, such as converting drinks with a friend into a brisk walk instead. Use it before you lose it. Forgoing your fitness for the sake of your young children may seem noble, but it can complicate later efforts to do activities with them. Don't tough it out. If you're hurting, find time to get a checkup. Without treatment,

A sign of things to come? In clash between nuclear-armed Pakistan and India last month, misinformation ran wild across the region’s major networks, fueled by WhatsApp, social media, and misleading edits, @karishma-m.bsky.social and colleagues report.

NEW DELHI - Shortly after midnight on May 9, an Indian journalist received a WhatsApp message from Prasar Bharati, the state-owned public broadcaster. Pakistan's army chief had been arrested, the message read, and a coup was underway. Within minutes, the journalist posted the information on X, and others followed suit. Soon enough, it was splashed across major Indian news networks and went viral on social media. The Times Now Navbharat reported that Indian forces had entered Pakistan; TV9 Bharatvarsh told viewers that Pakistan's prime minister had surrendered; Bharat Samachar said he was hiding in a bunker. All of them, along with some of the country's largest channels - including Zee News, ABP News and NDTV - repeatedly proclaimed that major Pakistani cities had been destroyed. To support the false claims, networks aired unrelated visuals from conflicts in Gaza and Sudan, from a plane crash in Philadelphia - and even scenes from video games. Zee News, NDTV, ABP News, Bharat Samachar, TV9 Bharatvarsh, Times Now and Prasar Bharati did not respond to requests for comment. Just before midnight on May 8, in a WhatsApp message exchange seen by The Post, a journalist with a major Hindi-language network messaged colleagues: Across the border, Pakistani media outlets pushed their own falsehoods - that India had bombed Afghanistan and that Pakistan had destroyed India's army brigade headquarters. Some of the false claims came directly from Pakistani military spokesperson Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry during live news conferences; in one, Chaudhry showed a clip from an Indian news conference that had been misleadingly edited to remove a phrase, giving the false impression that India hadn't accused Pakistan of hitting civilian infrastructure.

two great stories today — one in WSJ on UFOs, one in NYT on a social media influencer — appear to have little in common But they both speak to a shared truth: the broad desire to believe in conspiracies, and the self-interested motives of those who fan them

The Pentagon Disinformation That Fueled America's UFO Mythology U.S. military fabricated evidence of alien technology and allowed rumors to fester to cover up real secret-weapons programs By Joel Schectman and Aruna Viswanatha June 6, 2025 9:00 pm ET| Listen to article (16 minutes) tiny Pentagon office had spent months A investigating conspiracy theories about secret Washington UFO programs when it uncovered a shocking truth: At least one of those theories had been fueled by the Pentagon itself. The congressionally ordered probe took investigators back to the 1980s, when an Air Force colonel visited a bar near Area 51, a top-secret site in the Nevada desert. He gave the owner photos of what might be flying saucers. The photos went up on the walls, and into the local lore went the idea that the U.S. military was secretly testing recovered alien technology. The attention brought Mr. McGee scores of fans who adored his dedication and his style: Mr. McGee, who is Black and said he speaks and dresses

Agree with this though.

The issue is not going to go away. Anyone who seeks to gain the public trust—and journalists say they do—are duty-bound to honor that trust. The reading, listening, and viewing public damn certainly has a right to know if a journalist covering the savings and loan debacle ever received money to speak to a member savings and loan association. Should anyone who is fortunate enough to pick up $20,000 or $25,000 for speaking to a gathered industry group be obligated never to write about the industry again, and be further obligated to disclose the fee? The Big Question.

Got this book after former Sen. Alan Simpson died last month + just started reading. He spends several pages extolling segregationist colleague Strom Thurmond + blasting a 1992 Post story about Thurmond’s alleged biracial daughter as “crap,” “sludge,” fake news. Just one problem: it was true.

A LIFETIME OF SCRAPPING WITH THE PRESS RIGHT IN THE OLD GAZOO ALAN K. SIMPSON 는 تمح. And You Can Quote Me 155 Allow me to offer a few facts about Strom Thurmond. He devoted almost his whole long life to public service, at great personal sacrifice. He served with extraordinary distinction in the United States Senate beginning in 1954 and continuing to the day I write this in the mid-1990s. He had top seniority on the Armed Services, Judiciary, and Veterans' Affairs committees and served as president pro tem of the Senate from 1981 through 1986. He practiced law and served his community in South Carolina as city attorney, county attorney, and state senator. During World War II, Strom Thurmond was in the Army glider landing in Normandy with the 82nd Airborne Division on D-Day, June 6, 1944. He was decorated for his valor and courage, receiving some of the highest military honors this country can confer. At the time this Post article was printed, Strom Thurmond was the proud father of four children. A senseless tragedy would take away the life of his beloved oldest daughter many months later. Nancy Moore Thurmond was killed by a drunken driver while in the prime of her life, and a fine and dear man grieved. Yes, in the 1940s—fifty years past-Strom and most other Southern politicians embraced segregation. He had long since altered his views on the subject, proving it every day in his deeds and in his Senate votes. Still, his supposed fathering of a black woman's child was too good a story for the Washington Post to resist. There was just one basic and fundamental problem, a problem the Post never acknowledged. The story was not true. The day the story ran in the Post, several senators visited with Strom and shared our loathing of it all. Strom, his head held high, ust raised both hands and said, EQ The Washington fost Thurmond Paternity Claim Valid, Family Says L.A. Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.) acknowledged yesterday a claim made by a 78-year-old Los Angeles schoolteacher that she is the senator's mixed-race daughter, a charge that had dogged her throughout her otherwise quiet life and shadowed Thurmond during his public career as a leading voice of racial segregation.

“If ever there was a time to fire off the lewdest possible joke about a powerful senator, this was not it.” From @faizsays.bsky.social’s new book, HUBRIS MAXIMUS, about a 2021 episode when Elon mocked then-Senate finance chair @wyden.senate.gov + staff’s private alarm about their boss’ behavior.

Weeks later, Rohan Patel was placing a call to the top aide of Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR). At a time when Tesla was at the height of its valuation, Patel was in the unenviable position of putting out a four-alarm fire of his boss's making. Musk had just tweeted a US senator-not just any senator, the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee-a vulgar comment about his Twitter display photo, or profile picture, in response to a post calling for a billionaires' tax.'3 the fallout from the Wyden tweet. They had scrambled to respond to one too many episodes like this. In this instance, Musk's offensive tweet had struck during crucial discussions about the Inflation Reduction Act, President Biden's signature climate bill that was still being written and which Tesla had been actively engaged in discussions about.
