how is it to go over the eyelids? are the margins of error tighter than other places or is it about the same depth you poke at as other tattoos?

The depth varies depending on the thickness of the skin anyway, and eyelid skin is quite shallow, so you won't hit as hard. It wasn't really that difficult, but it's a very small amount of tattooing that when right up to the eyelid.
