Handguns are a great place to start. The overwhelming majority of GSW's I have seen in the trauma bay are from them, not AR-15's

In the UK, you need a certificate from the police to legally own or acquire a firearm. The certificates are valid for 5 yrs & require you to demonstrate a "good reason" for ownership & show you are not a danger to the public. This involves background checks, references, a GP medical & a home visit.

Before responding, I reviewed your profile & noted your reason for firearm ownership as "They are fun." Sadly, in the wrong hands, that same sense of fun has contributed to the deaths of countless children. Personal infringements mean little in the face of such tragedies.

Any number of common items can be misused by the wrong hands. The behavior perpetrated by the walking definition of a “madman” should not be used as a reason to attempt impossible and illegal legislation. Personal infringements mean a lot in the face of such lunacy.

Why should I, one gun owner out of the ~60 million, curtail my rights because of the actions of one nutjob out of the population of 341 million? The statistics alone make such actions a joke. It would be like regulating all computers/cell phones to curtail illegal pornography. It’s laughable.

As a matter of course, parental controls are implemented on my children's devices to mitigate exposure to explicit content, including illegal pornography. This is a standard practice in responsible parenting.

I do the same with mine. The example, though, is having the government regulate cell/computer access based on the prevalence of exploitive sexual media being produced/consumed by others. Should the government take such an expansive step to curtail the behavior of a (relatively) small # of crimes?

We didn’t regulate pressure cookers after the Boston Marathon bombing, France and Germany didn’t regulate trucks after several crowds got flattened. There were child casualties in those as well. Recognizing that you can’t legislate the outliers out of existence is part of living in a free society.

Being able to honestly talk about issues means being honest Many people enjoy target shooting. Many people enjoy hunting. It's like the War on Drugs. We lied to our kids about drugs and when they tried them and realized how fun (and in most cases safe) they were the war was lost. Same here
