I asked about this, because I wondered, too. The answer was straightforward: no. When wearing gloves, the nerves at the end of one's fingertips become de-sensitized. That makes it easier to tear a page. The one rule was to not touch the 400-year old ink.

Very cool to know and that you had the opportunity. When I visited the Cosmos Club in DC they had me put on gloves, so the acid from the oil in my skin would not affect the paper. I got look through Lewis and Clark Maps
