This pissed me off
Longtime Bay Area English teacher. I like reading Charles Dickens’ stuff. And I’ve read Proust and have lived to tell the tale. I like movies, too. https://boxd.it/1zoXB https://www.goodreads.com/mattcarton

@rejectednytwords.bsky.social I am glad this account exists. I’m still peeved about these two.

RIP. He was so deserving of that Oscar nomination. He makes a brief and unforgettable appearance in Powwow Highway. A wonderful actor.

This is very cool and I am glad I helped contribute. When I was in DC for a week last month CitiBike was how I got around. A great town for biking, that’s for damn sure!

Talking about aspect ratio in my film class this afternoon. I showed this selection from Lawrence of Arabia. When the cut went from blown-out match to sunrise a couple of my students gasped. Anne V. Coates FTW. #filmsky 🎥🎬📽️

This is a damn shame about the Edinburgh Castle. Had some good times there back in the 90s. I even once took second place there in a Sean Connery Impression contest.

Agreed. The current generation’s aversion to b&w is something I have to get them over. I also show them Grady Hendrix’s Criterion Channel Spotlight on GE, where he argues that GE is a horror film. It’s a great example of film analysis.
Matt Carton (@mattcarton.bsky.social) reply parent
I’ve taught GE the last couple of years & screened the film afterwards. When the students see John Mills for the first time in Joe’s forge, they laugh, mostly because Mills is much older than Pip should be. Then they soon forget about that b/c the movie is so damn brilliant - even if it is in b&w!

Why do whiteMillennial parents give their children last names for first names (e.g. Paxton, Bryson)? Or, for that matter, occupations as first names (Cooper, Hunter)? TBH, I half-expected to see a lot of girls named Khaleesi at this point.

Eddie Muller presented this at a Noir City Festival a couple of years back (on a double bill with They Live by Night). Rex Ingram and Harry Morgan were great in their supporting roles.

I asked about this, because I wondered, too. The answer was straightforward: no. When wearing gloves, the nerves at the end of one's fingertips become de-sensitized. That makes it easier to tear a page. The one rule was to not touch the 400-year old ink.
