Agreed. The current generation’s aversion to b&w is something I have to get them over. I also show them Grady Hendrix’s Criterion Channel Spotlight on GE, where he argues that GE is a horror film. It’s a great example of film analysis.
I’ve taught GE the last couple of years & screened the film afterwards. When the students see John Mills for the first time in Joe’s forge, they laugh, mostly because Mills is much older than Pip should be. Then they soon forget about that b/c the movie is so damn brilliant - even if it is in b&w!

I asked about this, because I wondered, too. The answer was straightforward: no. When wearing gloves, the nerves at the end of one's fingertips become de-sensitized. That makes it easier to tear a page. The one rule was to not touch the 400-year old ink.

Don’t I know it. I almost contacted you last week to let you know we were focused on Macbeth. One of the highlights: a read-around of the *entire play* in the Great Hall with my colleagues.
To any of my colleagues: The Folder Academy was one of the best professional experiences I’ve ever had. I highly recommend you sign up for it next year.
This is the artifact I got to study, a copy of this publication of Macbeth by Orson Welles, published three months before the release of Citizen Kane. Of note are these amazing drawings Welles himself did!
I also got to see an original of Holinshed’s Chronicles
I had the great privilege last week of attending the Folger Shakespeare Library’s Summer Teacher Academy. Got to study Macbeth, perform a little bit of Macbeth, and do some research in their archives. In this picture I’m touching a page of an actual 2nd Folio
