Bike shorts are more comfortable than regular shorts and won’t give you (or at least me) chafing issues. For a top I usually wear a close fitting shirt made from a nylon/merino blend. But, do haul out jerseys for longer rides or inclement weather.

Yes. There are more options in cycling clothes than there used to be. The clothes I wear depends a lot on the nature of the ride and the distance. Short errands--whatever I have on. Group rides more than 20 miles, bike shorts and a seasonable shirt. Comfort over style for me.
