The first instance of someone stealing my art was in 2nd grade(2001). I drew some Kimba fanart at a sleepover and let my friend keep it. She told everyone around school she drew it, but my close friends knew like immediately and called her out. I can't believe I experienced that pre-internet.

I did, too! In 2005 I was in grade 10 highschool and I drew some anime thing for a friend; he proceeded to not only claim he drew it but then he gave it to his crush I was also her friend, she showed it to me, raving, and I was like, "Uh, I actually drew that, he lied" lol
Hilariously enough, she got the 2005 version of the ick from it and I confronted him later. He was all deer in the headlights about it and tried to apologise and I simply said, "Never ask me for art again" He was downgraded to acquaintance after lol
