He didn't really have strong Black support, which is why Biden smoked him in South Carolina in 2020. Dunno if I'd say he alienated anyone though.

Biden smoked him because the Democratic Party intervened (Sanders is technically an independent that caucuses with Democrats). Perspective of a truly baffled independent as I've watched the Democratic Party hurt themselves by playing it safe.

Biden smoked him bc Jim Clyburn endorsed Biden at the last minute. The D electorate did not know Sanders well, so the endorsement was key. If Clyburn had remained neutral, we would have seen a very different outcome.
