As someone who has worked in CS/IT for 20 years, I can attest to the fact that most of these people are morons. The problem is that they've been told repeatedly, whether it be after fixing the VCR for grandpa or graduating with a STEM degree, that they are geniuses.
They are not. Like many people, they excel at one thing. Concepts like grammar, critical thinking and EQ are just as difficult subjects for them to grasp as Java, Python, etc., are to most non-CS folks. They had the right skill at the right time. Like plumbers at the dawn of indoor plumbing, etc.
