You know how some people don't like cilantro? That's me with sourdough , but you have me wondering if I've just had BAD sourdough bread?
Maybe you can advise me, then, on whether I should purchase my local bakery's 15" $30 artisanal sourdough pizza. Waste of $$ or worth it?

Would probably be good then. The flavor is a bit on the delicate side so if you want to actually enjoy anything more than your pizza being slightly sour I’d go minimalist.

Do you have a freezer? Bread freezes and defrosts amazingly well, so that loaf could last a long time.
Good advice. But they are selling a small-ish pizza, so I really just want to know if sourdough makes a good pizza crust.

Some sourdough cultures have been kept alive for decades and passed down through the family. A good sourdough can almost crawl out of the bag under it's own power...

I do think it's become a little bit fetishized as like the "one true bread" with too much emphasis on recently-invented quality markers. It's also prone to being used in applications it's not particularly suited to, but when it's allowed to shine on its own terms, it absolutely fucks.

Union Market sells a really good house sourdough that is appropriately moist and doughy.
