He's not Black. He's not ethnically African. He wasn't even American at the time. His NATIONALITY was African not his ethnicity.

He never claimed to be Black. He is Indo-Ugandan. It's not just his nationality. It's his ethnicity.
The box he checked said "Black or African American". That's pretty clear to most people. He knew he wasn't Black, even at 17.
Right, but they didn't have a box for Indo-Ugandan people, so he checked Asian and wrote in Ugandan. What do you think he should have done?
He checked Black/African American as well as Asian.
What should an egyptian fill in? Are you going to criticize someone who is Egyptian-American using the African-American label despite their skin being lighter and their religion being Muslim? Africa is a big continent with a lot of different cultures, religions, etc. It's OUR fault we
(White Americans) have forced the people of the world into 5-7 categories to choose from when it's not at all how the world works. I get that America is trying to use data for equity and equality, but we can't make the data collection so skewed toward American identities and then freak out when
another culture's identities do not fit our little cookie cutter check boxes. That's ridiculous.
You obviously have some idea what he should have done instead.
And as I keep saying, he did that to try to accurately reflect his identity on a form with limited options, and to clarify he wrote in that he is Ugandan. But you are accusing him of lying to get into a school that would know his connections to Africa exactly
Hate to step into this US identity chaos, but Africa is not a nation… factsinstitute.com/countries/co... …for a country built on the labour of people kidnapped from that continent I’d expect a little higher level of knowledge…
America isn't a nation either. Nor is Asia.
Indeed. Two nations in the north of the first. 48 in the second.
23 Nations in North America en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...
Mmm… I would place some of those into a grouping called Central America… and let’s not get into whether Greenland is North America or not.
North America is a continent. These are the countries that are on it. Central America is like Southeast Asia or North Africa, a designation to make it easier to talk about a region with shared characteristics, but those countries are still a part of the larger continent.
