I stopped watching CNN when Bush invaded Iraq. They were banging the drums for war. While actual weapons inspectors that had been there. Said there were no weapons of mass destruction. The weapons inspectors were telling the truth. CNN just went along with the war machine.

My impression was that back in the day of Walter Cronkite, news wasn't a moneymaker for CBS. The soap opera profits helped pay for the news staff. Huntley-Brinkley (NBC) was respected too. The whole country heard one or the other. Segregationists complained about the liberal bias.

From an old person: News divisions were cost centers, not profit makers. Networks were required to report news to keep their broadcast licenses. There were only 3 networks (no Fox and I mean the network, not the all day fake news channel). Ted Turner started CNN in the 1980’s and news started $$$.
