NEW: Conservatives in Maine have placed a measure on the Maine *this* November that'd restrict the ease of voting in a lot of ways — notably, with new barriers to voting by mail. (The rules would be in place by next year's key Senate race.) Learn more:

I can't imagine the people of Maine agreeing to this.

Americans living abroad who vote from the state of Maine do not want restrictions on mail in voting. Strangely, in this article, as with most others, this group that depends almost entirely on mail in voting, is not mentioned!

Let's be real, this would dramatically help the Dems.

But aren't lower propensity voters now Republican voters? Would this measure really help the Republicans (asking seriously)?

Whhooo boy, time to ✍️ more ✉️ 👩‍💻 🗣! I spend a lot of time near Presque Isle, not as many flags or signs now. That gives me a sliver of hope.

Barriers to voting by mail would honestly hurt the GOP more than the Dems (Lotta old folks vote by mail) but the GOP has really got a bug up their ass about it.

@burness.bsky.social reports on how this would greatly affect people with disabilities and older voters. My favorite quote: boltsmag.org/maine-questi...

“We’re not even a voting rights advocacy organization, but we’ve had to become one,” Jess Maurer, executive director of the Maine Council on Aging, told Bolts.

This is wrong regardless of its partisan impact, but given the realignment of high-propensity and low-propensity voters over the past decade, I also don’t think this stuff is going to work for them anymore.

Yeah.. they certainly have not thought through this strategy. Older people and rural areas would be most impacted and, well… have I got some news about district 2 lol
