I simply cannot accept it!! I've changed my pronunciation of SO MANY WORDS that I learned through reading, but I must draw the line somewhere and that somewhere is detritus!

If you're pronouncing it duh TREE tiss rather than dee TRITE uss, that's just a US/UK difference in pronunciation. Both are correct. What I wonder is if the audiobook reader correctly pronounced Mr. Teatime's name (tay AH tih may).

I was pronouncing it neither, I was stressing a whole different syllable and frankly I like my pronunciation better 😅
