Respectfully, your diagnosis at the top for why trust in universities is down is so fatally flawed that the rest of the document is pointless.

The reason trust is down is because they are the explicit targets of a poltical project to wrestle away their institutional independence. Incidentally, these same people are targeting (credulous rubes within) academia to carry their water as though their criticisms are being made in good faith).
