There’s no boot on the neck of our civil rights in this country. Democracy is messy - and Cooper’s made some bad decisions. But our judiciary has show that the Executive’s powers are still limited. We still have separation of powers. We still have civil rights.

“He did not realise he needed to apply under the post-Brexit scheme for EU nationals.” He has a good case for settled status and hopefully will be treated with some common sense. But this isn’t an example of extra-judicial or extra-legal detention.

Not saying it’s right. Just that it’s not an example of extra-judicial or extra-legal detention. He was detained because he didn’t have a documented right to remain. He’s been bailed by a court pending his case review. This is due process in action. Not authoritarianism.

The people arrested for support of Palestine Action are largely on record that their show of support was not for the group, but in protest at the proscription of that group. A conscious calculation to get arrested and highlight issue The police have been criticised by the courts for these arrests
