If you say so. I played through it for the first time in April, and I didn't see any of that. Wasn't meaningfully improved narratively or mechanically over the GBA Rescue Team one.

Fair enough that it’s not for everyone, and even I as a massive fan of it think the writing can be a little too childish and heavy handed at times, but there’s an enormous fandom around it, some of which are so emotionally affected by it that they discover they’re otherkin/therian (source: me)
