Midna's Lament and certain Song of Healing I would expect count for something. Because it's not like all the games on the list are actually sad. Stuff like PMD Explorers of Time only gets there because people played it when they were babies. But that's beside the point. As you say, Okami is act-adv.
I reject this categorization, but even if it were valid, wouldn't there be Zelda games on this list? I do not believe that more people have cried to Tales of Legendia than any Zelda game.

You might like Just Breed, an Enix SRPG for the Famicom released in '92 (after DQ5 for reference.) There's no promotions, but it's got everything else you mention and a variety of objectives such as survive X turns, reach a moving target, can only use your generals etc. Fan translation's good.

99% of the time when you see a Kickstarter for a game that looks like it has AA or AAA production values, the Kickstarter money is to fund a vertical slice to try to convince a publisher to actually make the game. You can't fund a $5-$25 million USD game on a Kickstarter budget.
Swich version is inferior. Besides the original being 60 fps, it also had the ability to skip forward through text AND scroll back up to re-read anything you might've missed in the same speech bubble. The remake only lets you fast-forward text that you've already read before.
