Honestly, I read the Japanese for whatโ€™s going on in Japan for the most part. the U.S. coverage I do read is usually basic or from the associated press. When Abe was in charge, there was a shift in new coverage and they veered to what the government would have liked, if that tells you anything.

Abe had issue as well. Most of the party elites are part of their own extreme (not so secret) right wing society called Nippon Kaigi. So being shot by another crazy isnโ€™t shocking. No, I havenโ€™t noticed, coverage of him, but havenโ€™t looked. I donโ€™t think we should glorify those types.

not to glorify, he deserves to be prosecuted under the full extent of the law but i find it very strange that there's NO mention of his case, etc - this is a guy who KILLED a former PM in a country where they have super strict gun laws

Of yes, of course. Japan is actually one is the places that have a 99.9 conviction rate, so no issue there. ๐Ÿ˜‚ I mean to say that I like what NZ did with the Christchurch, shooter. They kept they mostly suppressed in the news, to stop him getting famous in the 24/7 cycle.
