Things change. 80 years ago that was true after a horrible second war. Today in relative peace the key aspects have been hijacked for wrongful reasons which are not rights. But aspirations or wishes and sometimes hate.
And yet dozens of UK citizens needed recourse of the ECHR to protect them from govt. Denying their rights. See Sunday Times Vs UK, Big Brother Watch Vs UK, or Goodwin v. UK etc. Could you cite your 'Hate' based cases for balance?
Well. If I want to call myself a cat that’s fine. You can have that right. But you can’t have a right to make me agree you are a cat against my own values.
Ok; now we know what you've been reading/listening to.
So your best shot is a non sequitur about cats. Focus really hard and give some reasoned argument about the ECHR.
It's sadly not a non sequitur, but a transphobic dog-whistle from the states. The guy's now proved he's both racist and bigoted - I wouldn't waste your time on him further.
He should try Twitter/X - there are lots of like minded simpletons to play with there.
I did. Too many nasty replies that added nothing to a thread but hate
‘Relative peace’ - you are f***ing joking.
Why. Did you just get called up?
We’ve got the rise of the far right across Europe, Trump running roughshod in the US, and Russia a major threat and you think it’s relatively calm? You’d be better off on X.
Agree with first point but no thanks to rejoining X. It’s full of hatred.
2/3 - Furthermore, the notion that it overrides UK sovereignty without any checks is incorrect. The "Margin of Appreciation" doctrine acts as a powerful brake, and ultimately, the power to make and change UK law rests with the UK Parliament.
3/3 - The ECHR is not a foreign imposition; it's a reflection of values the UK helped to establish after WW II to ensure the horrors of state-sponsored oppression never happened again. It is an essential, line of defence for ordinary people against potential overreach by their own government.
