I just took my son to Taco Bell in Burbank and two kids just brought their bikes inside. It's good to see kids enjoy bike freedom. But I didn't even think about how parking mins effected design (which was just like this).

1 per 50sf?? That’s a crazy lot of parking. Is there even a weak logic behind that number?

What's up with the weird looking bikes?
I guess you never lived through the banana seat days These rad power bikes are just a modern take on them, with power. Great for having a passenger
I did indeed - had a cool BMX / banana seat combo bike myself.

That’s a wild ratio. A parking space by itself is like ~150SF
With egress and buffer, about 350 sf per car
Ironically, I'm pretty sure drive thrus also make traffic worse overall too, aside from losing the space for humans.
💯
Plus greenhouse gasses. Not all the cars in line are EVs.
How strange. must be a local ordinance of some kind, and I’m sure we live states away, but our TB has a giant, enormous parking lot compared to the footprint of its building. HUGE. Always looks half empty even when lot of ppl inside. Other stores nearby, but there’s tons of other parking for them.🤷♀️
So thats why so many restaurants are micro now
Just got back from Scotty's by the Beach (Hermosa). 18 bikes on 8 sidewalk staple racks. More people got to brunch by bike than car. 3 bikes locked to each other because we ran out of racks.
@chrisunits.bsky.social and I used to live right up the block and walk to get breakfast here (and Brother’s Burritos) all the time!
The Torrance 13 bus makes this an easy destination for thousands. I can ride for 10 minutes and be dropped off right at Pier and Hermosa Aves
Do they still have the cereal crusted french toast? That was A+
I didn't look closely at the pancakes and French toast section of the menu
I ran into Swee (socially, not literally), the skateboarding auntie.
She loves open streets events like CicLAvia. At a bike party, she showed me how she bikes with a parasol in one hand.
This picture smacks of 8 boys about to do some serious tomfoolery.....
The kids are so independent now. We've seen a decrease in car traffic since the kids got ebikes. They are required to take an ebike safety class before getting a bike parking sticker for school. Kids are biking better than their parents!
Do you find that in your area remodels result in the removal of bike racks? Most of the bike racks I used in HB and FV have disappeared and even some in LB. Whatever property management companies own these strip malls seem to be under the impression that bike racks attract homeless people.
