And I should say, artists know this, and are allowed to raise prices if they wish.
I’m part of a Minneapolis based group called Otherworldly Arts Collective. We do group shows based on themes. It’s free to apply for events. If accepted, (new jurors each time), there’s a $25 entry fee. Anything sold off the walls or from a sales table run be staff takes 30%. Does this sound fair?
In general a 70/30 split makes much more sense to me, especially since the artist is already fronting a lot in many cases. I do not think there is any reason for any gallery that is not producing prints to take more than 30%
Ah! Yeah i am familiar with OAC and have been to a few shows. The model is alright, i sway between thinking application fees are alright, it usually depends on the gallery model. OAC does alright to my knowledge, but I haven’t been in a show yet to have the experience i do with others.
